Background: The bibliometric analysis allows us to retrospectively explore quantitative aspects of production and citation, such as metric evaluation of scientiic publications. Objective: To characterize the scientiic articles published in the Revista Médica Hondureña (RMH), 1990-2020. Methods: Bibliometric study. Data compilation was done from the printed and electronic versions of the RMH. The variables were analyzed: year of publication, journal volumes, numbers by volume, type of articles, citation number, incorporated topics, national and foreign institutional afiliations. The analysis included the 110 issues of the 31 volumes of the period, from Volume 58 Number 1 Year 1990 to Volume 88 Number 2 Year 2020. Results: 1151 articles were published, 26.2% (302) original scientists, 19.4% (223) clinical cases. 13.9% (73/302) of the original scientiic articles corresponded to the public health area. 39.9% (459/1151) of the published articles have been cited, 38.3% (176) original articles, 20.7% (95) clinical cases. The total number of citations received was 2,087, equivalent to an average of 67.3 citations per year and 1.8 citations per published article. The year 2011 was most cited by national and Latin American authors with 189 citations. Discussion: The scientiic production of the RMH is diverse according to its scope, but scarce in quantity and visibility. It is necessary to incorporate more bibliometric indicators for their indexing in international databases and platforms, including social networks, to increase their impact and visibility.
