Myelomeningocele is one of the most frequent congenital malformations in Honduras, characterized by an abnormal closure of the posterior lamina of the vertebral bodies, with the exposure of the nervous structures. The purpose of this review was to collect information that supports timely clinical practice in patients with myelomeningocele, especially in the Honduran medical literature, reinforced with literature from other national and international medical journals, in the PubMed database and LILACS, for the period 1985-2018. In conclusion, giving timely management provides a better prognosis and quality of life for patients with neural tube defects.
