Prevention of total and subtotal post-thyroidectomy morbidities: a bibliographic review

Thyroid diseases have shown a boom in recent times, increasing with itsekf the report of surgical interventions. Thyroidectomy is one of the most practiced surgeries in endocrinology and after its performance complications have been described being linked to certain risk factors that enhance its appearance. A bibliographic search was carried out in the period from February 2018 to December 2019, in international databases (PubMed, Cochrane, SCIELO, LILACS and Redalyc) and manual search in Google Scholar, using the terms complications of thyroidectomies, post-surgical complications, thyroid surgery and thyroidectomies. Three general groupings of postoperative risks factors were identified: Intrinsic factors of the disease, Patient comorbidities and Associated with the surgical procedure. It is essential to identify and correct comorbidities for the prevention of postsurgical complications, since complications continue to be a cause of considerable concern.
