Adherence to comprehesive hypertension treatment plan in patients from Ojojona, Francisco Morazán

Background: Arterial hypertension is a highly prevalent non-transmissible chronic disease in Honduras, and it is a risk factor for cardiovascular, cerebrovascular and renal disorders. Cardiovascular disease mortality is 27% in the country, according to the World Health Organization. Objective: To determine the level of adherence to pharmacological and non-pharmacological treatment in hypertense patients who attended the San Juan de Ojojona Health Center in the irst quarter of the year 2017. Patients and methods: We used the Martin-Bayarre-Grau questionnaire to study the level of adherence to hypertensive treatment, which was applied through personal interviews to 66 patients selected by simple randomized sample. Results: Most of the people studied (60%) are partially adhered to treatment, 36.4% are fully adherent and 3% have no adherence to treatment. Conclusion: Results showed that low physical activity and not following dietary indications, inluence greatly the level of partial adherence that most of the population studied.
