Maternal risk factors associated to newly born of term small for the gestational age, maternity of San Felipe hospital, 2016

The intrauterine growth restriction (RCIU) and the small one for the gestational age (PEG) are presented in 4% to 15% of the pregnancies, in 2010, 27% of the births in countries with low to medium income were PEG. The most prevalent risk factors for a PEG fetus are a history of IUGR, smoking habit, preeclampsia and multiple pregnancy. Small fetuses for gestational age, are more likely to develop linear growth retardation in lifespan, has been found with the reduction of physical and intellectual potentialities and increase the chances of chronic diseases. The objective of this study is to determine the risk factors that are identifiable and preventable in prenatal control of mothers who are in the same age PEG. Methods: A retrospective study of cases and controls was conducted during the period from January 1 to December 31, 2016. The total number of study units was 4675 patients, comprising 1171 cases and 3504 controls. Results: the association of PEG with maternal age less than 19 years, marital status, level of education, height less than 150 cm, weight less than 50 kg at the beginning of pregnancy, being primitive, history of IUGR in previous pregnancy, less than 5 pregnancy controls, no psychoprophylactic preparation course for childbirth has been received.
