Abstract

Background: intestinal parasites are a public health problem in our country, currently the epidemiology is not the adequate, we still use statistics from other countries. Objective: indentify the characteristics of stool examinations in the department Santa Barbara in 2015. Materials and methods: A descriptive cross-sectional study. Monthly stool examinations were analyze in the department of Santa Barbara in Honduras of 6 laboratories that depend on the health secretary in the period from May to December of 2015. Results: of the 2,234 samples analyzed the frequency of intestinal parasites was of 51.2%. The infection percentage found were: A. lumbricoides 15.1%, E. nana 12.1%, T. trichiura 7.7%, E. coli 6.8%, E. histolytica/dispar 5.2% G. lamblia 4.9%, hookworm 3.2% y B. hominis 2.7%. Discussion: similar information has been found in other regions of the country. Although more studies are needed to complete the epidemiology of the various departments.
