Abstract

Background: Chickenpox is a pox disease that predominantly occurs in childhood, being highly contagious so its presence during the pregnancy, the fetus and the newborn can be a real problem. The irst case of congenital Varicella are report in 1878; occurred in a newborn of a day of life for what he did to think that infection had been acquired in utero. Clinical case: The case of a newborn of 14 days of life which is brought to the emergency by generalized squito injury accompanied by irritability, without any other symptoms companion, with a history of his mother and his older brother to present the same injury a week before the birth, is exposed it is joined with the diagnosis and treatment of perinatal Varicella, with satisfactory evolution within two weeks of treatment, with no complications. Conclusion: The early use of oral acyclovir contributed to satisfactory remission from the box, in addition to the partial protection by the mother via transplacental acquired IgG. VZV infection in pregnant women has been shown as an agent recognized teratogen and perinatal Varicella can be very serious, but here lies the importance of the period of gestation in which occurs the transmission, lack of prenatal care to be a trigger that contributes to the increase in perinatal morbidity and mortality.
