Background: Guillain-Barre Syndrome (GBS) is deined as an acute peripheral demyelinating polyradiculoneuropathy. In Latin America is the leading cause of acute laccid paralysis in children under 15 years old with annual incidence ranging between 0.91-1.1 cases per 100,000 inhabitants. In Honduras, a cohort study conducted for 11 years at the Hospital Escuela Universitario (HEU), was estimated in the population pediatric an incidence of 1.37 cases per 100,000 inhabitants. Case report: A female 12-yearold patient of who was diagnosed with GBS acute motor axonal neuropathy variant (AMAN), who presented ventilatory failure, treated with immunoglobulin and steroids. She remained four months in pediatric intensive care unit HEU where key tests were performed for diagnosis and classiication, including cerebrospinal luid cytochemical results which showed albuminocytologic dissociation within 10 days from the beginning of muscle weakness manifestation. The electromyography reported data compatible with GBS AMAN variant. The patient was referred to Rehabilitation Service of the Hospital of Specialties San Felipe, where she began rehabilitation therapy for a period of 6 months showing signiicant increase in muscle strength and improvement of functional independence. Conclusion: Physical therapy and a good nutritional intake have been considered key to the management of patients with GBS, especially when therapy is initiated in a timely manner and with a multidisciplinary approach.
