Background. The mycophenolic acid (MPA) is an immunosuppressive agent that is administrated as mycophenolate mofetil (MMF), a prodrug, and that has been used in the prevention of transplant organ rejection. Recently it’s used as an off-label therapeutic option in many dermatology diseases such as psoriasis, atopic dermatitis, connective tissue disorder, autoimmune blistering disorder, and other inflammatory skin conditions because of its anti-inflammatory effects, acting only in the proliferation of lymphocytes. Methods. Some recent articles about the use of mycophenolate mofetil in dermatology diseases were reviewed. Development. Mycophenolate mofetilis a new generation immunosuppressant of very specific use, so its toxicology profile is lower than the rest of immunosuppressive drugs. Its use in dermatology has been limited because of the lack of control trials, but in practice we consider is a drug with a very good therapeutic potential and helps us diminished the use of corticosteroids. Conclusions. Mycophenolate Mofetil (MMF) is a good therapeutic option in the treatment of inflammatory diseases in dermatology, even though its use has been off-label, it’s a very secure profile and good tolerance.
