Polythelia: a clinical case, Hospital Escuela Universitario

Introduction: The presence of supernumerary nipples without associated with other anatomical structures of the breast is the most common malformation of breast tissue attachment, called polythelia. Most occurs sporadically, although there have been distinct patterns of inheritance. Normally, they are following the path of the mammary lines, extending from the axilla to the pubic region. However, finding polythelia either bilateral, family, away from the mammary lines, no underlying breast tissue or without associated congenital malformations it is done exceptionally described in the literature. Clinical Case: We present the case of 24 years female patient who comes to present breast pain, in the breast exploration we found a Infra-areolar supernumerary nipple in right thoracic region; the patient said that she had the nipple from birth, with mild development during puberty. Denies episodes of secretion or changes during menstrual cycles, affirms polythelia family history of her mother and grandmother. No more changes were found. Conclusion: It is of importance in clinical because this pathology is associated with neoplasm and genetic defects so it is advisable to know their frequency.
