Abstract

Insulin resistance, a pathological condition of variable expression associated with Cardiovascular Risk, Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus, Fatty Liver of Non-Alcoholic Etiology, Lipodystrophies, Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome and other cancers. The purpose of this literature review was provide the reader with up-to-date information about some of the current developments in insulin resistance. A literature search was carried out in PUBMED from January 2014 to October 2021, obtaining 1,354 references, selecting 39 publications. Although continue discussion about the clinical and laboratory definition, it has been determined that the therapeutic and preventive management for cases of insulin resistance should be based on lifestyle changes with individualized pharmacological support. The current and potential impact in the immediate future of the epidemiology of insulin resistance is in the clinical-therapeutic studies in progress and in the public policies aimed at promoting a healthy lifestyle.
