Abstract

This document presents the analysis of the experiences of some families linked to the reintegration process of ex-combatants in Colombia in order to deepen the influence that the armed conflict has had on their structures, configurations and dynamics. In 2017, 11 interviews and 10 focus groups were held with former combatants in the reintegration process, as well as with family members and professionals from the Colombian Reincorporation and Normalization Agency (ARN), in the cities of Ibagué, Bogotá, Soacha and Villavicencio. The information was analyzed using inductive and deductive content analysis methodology with a directed approach. The results offer an in-depth analysis of family structures, their dynamics and configurations in the context of the armed conflict. The family is a space of risk and protection, in it we identify generational reproduction of the relationship patterns of the conflict, of stigma and violation, but in it forgiveness, return, care and the possibility of a country at peace coexist. It is important to incorporate families as a fundamental element of public policies and programs developed within the framework of disarmament, demobilization, and reincorporation of former combatants.
