Abstract

This brief article aims to work on the current applicability of two concepts of Marx's Capital: the use-value and the exchange-value.
For this task, basic texts by Adam Smith and Carlos Marx were reviewed, under the point of view of the recently deceased Marxist economist Paul Sweezy. Besides, Marx's concept fetishism of commodities and the secret thereof is applied to the present social relations. Finally, to set up against this process of mercantilization, the author presents some alternatives based on Ignacio Ellacuría's ideas about the Civilization of poverty.
