Abstract

This work presents the context in which the coup d´état on October 15th, 1979 developed in El Salvador, its motivations, the expectations that the coup arose, and the reactions of Archbishop Romero before such an event. Moving from the social and political context to the presence of Romero in the Archbishop office in San Salvador and from the proclamations of the Government
Board to Romero's reactions, this article presents a panorama full of hope that gave rise to the coup d´état.
