Abstract

The author attempts to approach the changes and characteristics of formal and informal employment in El Salvador in the context of a globalized world. It considers that employment in El Salvador is characterized by high levels of informality: about 70 per cent of the employed population is vulnerable in their jobs, either because of limited access to benefits or because of job instability or because of the fragility to which workers are exposed as owners of small production units.
