Abstract

The central theme of this article is the thesis that the Nahua groups settled in Central America before the conquest, specifically in El Salvador, brought with them the cultural heritage of the Nahuatl centers of power located in pre-Hispanic Mexico. The author wonders about the existence of a system of thought among the Nahua groups which, after successive waves, migrated to the isthmus. If such a system of thought existed, it would find its basis in Toltecayotl, or the teaching of Toltec wisdom. This would be the most valuable symbolic legacy of the inhabitants of pre-Hispanic El Salvador for current generations of Salvadorans.
