Suicide is a global phenomenon that has attracted significant research interest in recent years. However, prior to committing this act, the individual presents suicidal ideation. This consists in the recurrent appearance of intrusive thoughts about one's own death, the desire to die and the conditions of this possibility. To carry out research related to suicidal ideation, it is necessary to have instruments that have scientific evidence that supports their use in the context where they are intended to be implemented. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to analyze the psychometric properties of the Roberts Suicidal Ideation Scale using a sample of Salvadoran adults. This research was instrumental, with a cross-sectional design. Non-probabilistic snowball sampling was used to gather 213 questionnaires. The data collection technique was a self-directed survey in digital format. The instrument was shown to have adequate psychometric properties of construct validity, obtaining perfect fit indices that explain the unidimensional model of the scale. Convergent criterion validity showed a strong positive correlation. The reliability indices were acceptable, with values greater than .80. It was concluded that the Suicidal Ideation Scale is an instrument with sufficient psychometric evidence to be used in the Salvadoran context.
