Abstract

The aim of this article is twofold. It presents the foundations of accesible tourism, its benefits, and the barriers to implement it. In addition, this article approaches accessible tourism as a response to the market niche which has emerged out of the necessity for an increased accessibility in tourist destinations. Such market niche is explained through a diagnostic study that shows the active participation of Salvadorans with motor disabilities, age 18 and older, in the national tourism market.
