The species Tovaria pendula Ruiz & Pav. is described and illustrated, representing a new record for the flora of Nicaragua. The family Tovariaceae is represented by the genus Tovaria, which has a wide distribution in tropical America, though in the Antilles it is known only from Jamaica. In Nicaragua, it was collected for the first time on Cerro de Jesús mountain, located in the municipality of Jalapa, department of Nueva Segovia, at an altitude of 1,400 to 1,500 meters, at coordinates 13°58'37'' N, 86°10'29'' W, during a rapid floristic assessment.
