Abstract

The study assumed the order measure the level green economies productivity livestock (dairy and beef) in Latin America
where emissions of methane (CH4) from enteric fermentation are considered. To make these measurements we used the
IPCC Tier 1 method for determining emissions of CH4 and measuring its impact on productivity approach was used for data
analysis enclosures (DEA), estimating Malmquist indices.
The results show that Ecuador stands with a total factor productivity with a growth rate of 10% during the period 1980-2009,
and that this growth was mainly due to technological change represented a 4% rate growth of livestock production where
technology involves practices to reduce methane, by the efficiency of labor (farming) of 0.05% assessed deteriorates. In
this sense, we find that Costa Rica, Paraguay, Uruguay, Colombia and Guatemala were highlighted with a 7 and 5% in their
growth rates to achieve a green economy livestock.
