Abstract

This article explores and analyzes the consequences of student desertion from the perspective of its protagonists, the students who abandon curricular components in the Faculty of Dentistry, UNAN-León. A study was carried out with qualitative methodology, conducting in-depth interviews, with reductionist interpretive analysis. A semi-structured interview guide was prepared that contained the categories referring to the consequences of dropping out in the areas: academic, family, resources, emotional and social. The participants of this research were seven students to whom the purpose of the study was explained, they voluntarily accepted and were willing to express their opinion without reservations, in an individual audio-recorded interview. Finding that for students to drop out components implies an academic delay in their training and has repercussions from an emotional point of view, affecting their student self-esteem with feelings of guilt, insecurity and depression.
