Sources for the history of the Atlantic Coast of Nicaragua.

In May 1986 we initiated this Project for the Compilation of Sources for the History of the Caribbean Coast of Nicaragua, sponsored by the Centro de Investigaciones y Documentación de la Costa Atlántica (CIDCA), and financed by SAREC (Swedish Agency for Reaserch and Cooperation with Developing Countries). Originally designed to reproduce archival material that could be found in London, the project was expanded and is now more than half a decade into its implementation. Research has been carried out in England, Spain, Belize, Jamaica and Guatemala for a total of 15 months. Others are still to be carried out in the United States and Germany, lasting approximately four months. In less than two years a documentation work will have been carried out whose only precedent in Nicaragua, less extensive and of a different nature, is the compilation done by Andrés Vega Bolaños. Our purpose with this article is to present, in the simplest possible way for the non-specialized reader, what we have been able to do so far in our search through the archives and libraries of England, Spain, Belize, Jamaica and Guatemala.
