Abstract

The following study intends to provide a reading of events advocating independence, which are led by the senior citizen boards in the Miskito communities of the Nicaraguan Caribbean Coast. Considering this objective, the text is the product of a reflection. Such reflection comes from the direct experience observation of the facts and the assistance of the qualified opinion from other observers that belong to the local journalists circle, members of other professional discipline and community participants of the events. The article is divided in three sections. The first part deals with the valuation of the incidents in the region. The second part underlines slightly the cultural-symbolic importance of senior citizens within the idiosyncrasy of the community. The last and third section attempts to present the Communitarian Nation concept of La Mosquitia, as well as the basic demands of senior citizens.
