Competencies and challenges of UNICAES professors in the design of virtual learning environments and resources

The main objective of this research was to determine the competencies and challenges presented by the professors of Universidad Católica de El Salvador in the design of environments and training resources in virtual learning environments. Methodologically, a descriptive study was carried out, with a mixed approach; so the observation techniques were applied with twenty participants; the focus group with seventeen teachers and the survey with 258 students. All the participants belonging to the four university faculties of the Santa Ana campus.
It was determined that the professors of the University have competencies in the design of virtual learning environments, such as: organization of information, virtual classroom design, instructional design, management of the Moodle platform, communication and interaction. At the same time, they developed competencies that allow them to relate knowledge with tools to create, select virtual resources and curate content. Finally, among teachers they face socio-emotional challenges, access or availability of resources; digital and didactic literacy in virtual environments, among others.
