Abstract

The teaching of the English language is a process that entails the development of an adequate teaching methodology, which helps the student to grow their linguistic and communicative potentialities. The use of a virtual learning environment for a new language leads teachers to apply different strategies and resources than those normally used with a face-to-face modality.

In order to deepen and describe what type of methodology was applied in free online English course programs, a group of twenty-three teachers was observed in seasons five and eight, of the different levels: morning, evening and Saturday. The results show that the communicative approach is present in the organization of classes, content, interaction and development of activities.

A communicative methodology allows a student to be the main author of their learning; allowing you to be more independent, inquiring and active in developing English language skills.
