Footwear manufactured in El Salvador plays a crucial role in the country’s economy, being one of the main sectors dedicated to exportation (Economic and Commercial Office of Spain in El Salvador, 2019, p. 16). This industry encompasses a wide variety of materials and products, ranging from everyday footwear for men, women, and children to more specialized shoes for various activities.
This research evaluated the factors influencing the quality of school footwear, focusing on machinery, labor, measurements, the environment, and production methods, with particular emphasis on materials. The methodology employed was experimental. First, materials (leather, soles, and glue) available in the local market for producing girls’ school shoes were selected. Different combinations of these materials were then established. Subsequently, companies in El Salvador manufactured girls’ school footwear using these material combinations, which were subjected to standardized testing methods.
The analysis yielded values that could be compared across different results. Manufacturing workshops were visited, and interviews were conducted with producers to explore other factors affecting the quality of girls’ school footwear. This information gathering and analysis of the physical test results allowed for the identification of the material combination that yielded the best results in laboratory tests, indicating potential compliance with national and international quality standards.
