Abstract

The present study on the “digital self” is based on
the psychological theoretical bases on the evolution of social networks and their effects on the identity and personality of the subjects, plus the survey on “Social and Political Climate” carried out in El Salvador, at the national level. The hypothesis was delved into whether or not there is a “digital self ” as a dissociation and the evidence collected allows us to verify that a percentage of the population actually has two identities, one real and the other digital; and dissociation may be due to personal, moral or political reasons. Likewise, the study allowed us to characterize in depth the subjects who have an identity dissociated from their real one in digital scenarios.
