Abstract

Starting from the apocryphal “Mexican anthropology”, the article questions its institutionalization, as a residual of the disciplinary field, as well as its customary system.

In order to interpret “the Mexican” in its current meanings, it resorts to the cultural artifices of wrestling and rock that are also claimed and flaunted as such. Historically reviewing the development of both cultural industries, he offers the contrast to reveal the evanescent mediator in the relationship between State and subjects of Mexicanness in different generational moments, as well as the “abuses by habit” in an institutional disciplinary framework of the present. The cosmopolitanism inherent to the discipline is opposed to the nationalism with which dissidence is marginalized.
