Abstract

This essay reflects on education in El Salvador at the present time and in the near future.
Evidence and reality show that the Salvadoran school does not respond to the challenges
posed by the 21st century. Given this situation, paradigms are suggested to be considered as
a guiding perspective for education in the country, in accordance with international
educational consensus and trends, advances in education and the various historical contexts
and realities. Among these paradigms is complex thinking, suggested in education by Edgar
Morin, and the systems view of life, suggested by Capra and Luisi. Structural guidelines are
suggested that should guide the Salvadoran educational system in the 21st century.
