The purpose of this research is to know the possession and usability of smartphones among students of technical majors of Business Administration, Computing, and Risk Prevention during diurnal schedules between the first and third semester at Universidad de Los Lagos, headquarter Chiloe-Castro.
For this research, it was used the explanatory, non-experimental and quantitative paradigm; with the conviction of obtaining the most objective backgrounds, it was used a survey to gather and subsequently analyze data.
The results showed a high access and usability of smartphones among students, and a high possibility to promote educational activities in order to support the learning process itself.
After analyzing the data, it is proposed not only a variety of activities that take advantage of smartphones as an educational tool, but also a necessity to create more applications that promote the use of smartphones themselves as educational tools in order to increase the learning process, and the study plans of technical majors.
These ones should be oriented to an institutional model based on competences.
