Abstract

Spaniards are equal before the law, without any discrimination on the grounds of birth, race, sex, religion, opinion or any other personal or social condition or circumstance. The fiction of the nation was filled with the no less abstract fiction of the citizen, but not a neutral citizen without identity, but one to whom concrete and specific requirements were demanded. From the good savage in the state of nature, we have moved on to the good citizen in liberal democracy. Nevertheless, fictions fulfill their cohesive role, avoiding conflicts and more serious and evident manipulations; they would be something like pious lies. This should not make us forget the plurality of visions of good life that must be respected, the inviolable freedom of each individual, with its liberal origin and conceptualization. with its liberal origin and conceptualization.
