Anglo-Argentine Conflict. The interests in the dispute over the sovereignty of the Malvinas Islands.

Abstract

The Anglo-Argentinean conflict over the sovereignty of the Falkland Islands has a large history and a huge impact in the relationship between the two countries. Despite many events have occurred since the beginning of this conflict in 1833, it reached its critical stage during the Falklands War in April 1982, and does not seem to show significant transformations, nor hope for an agreement in the near future.
This paper presents a brief overview of the main events that allow a panoramic approach to the complexity of the problem, followed by an interpretation of the position of both countries and the analysis of fundamental arguments of the claims of sovereignty over the archipelago. At the same time, the main current interests over the Falkland Islands will be highlighted and, following this analysis, the position of each actor in this conflict will be explained. A reflective exercise on a dispute whose colonial plot transcends the question of sovereignty over the islands.
