Despite having divergent manifestations in each region and level of national development, the emergence of neonationalism has its casual roots in the economic crisis catalyzed by the financial collapse of 2008 and the decline of the state's legitimacy. The current rise of neonationalism could lead to a general increase in international political and military conflict, although some of its closest structural effects would affect the sustainability of regional integration organizations, they would have an impact on the increase in militancy and combativeness of fundamentalist groups, and in the increase of resonance zones disputes by mayor powers.
