Abstract

The article highlights and explains the main characteristics of the university model proposed by Ignacio Ellacuría in the 1970s—a different kind of university that takes the popular masses as the focus of its work and channels all its institutional power, through teaching, research, and social outreach, toward analyzing the causes of oppression and transforming historical reality, with the aim of becoming a theoretical, ethical, and political foundation for a historical praxis of liberation.
