Abstract

In this article, I will propose some theses for developing a critical philosophy of history in the present day. By “critical philosophy,” I mean a substantive philosophy of history that puts forward a series of theoretical and normative aspects capable of shedding light on emancipatory alternatives for action within the Latin American context. I will begin with an analysis of what has come to be called the crisis of classical (or modern) philosophy of history, which shaped a type of reflection on history aimed at constructing a systematic interpretation of universal history, in accordance with a principle according to which historical events are unified in their succession and move toward a fundamental meaning.
