Abstract

This academic article aims to show that the economic factor is the main cause of university student dropout rates in Central America. With this in mind, a review of different authors who say that the economic factor is one of the main elements that make students to drop out of their professional training was made. Also, the findings of researches carried out in Central American countries and which empirically show that the economic factor is the main cause for students to drop out within the university context are mentioned. Likewise, other types of factors that are related to university dropout rates and the consequences for both students and society are addressed. It is concluded through the theoretical foundation and the empirical evidence of other studies that the economic factor is the main cause of student dropout rates in most Central American countries.
