Abstract

Scientific communication is a fundamental pillar in its advancement and in the generation of knowledge, especially because the increase in online scientific publication has had a significant impact on the way research results are shared, and, precisely in this process, Academic journals play a crucial role, serving as vehicles for the dissemination of research and discoveries. However, a controversial and worrying issue has emerged in the world of academic publishing: spurious journals. These publications, which have proliferated in the academic field, lack ethical and scientific standards due to their lack of rigor and quality, which puts the quality of the research at risk; they lack scientific integrity because they seek to exploit uninformed researchers and academics; They deceive authors with promises of accelerated peer review and quality publication, so it is necessary to identify them, know how they work and the impact they have on research, and above all take on the challenge of preventing them from advancing.
