Abstract

Internet and ICTs have proliferated during the last decade in all human areas. They have transcended the economic, political, educational and social fields. The demand of online services is increasing every day given the new interactive lifestyle of people—digitally speaking—and this is why governments have had to drastically change the ways in which they approach and serve their citizens.

El Salvador is no exception even though that may demand an increase in the way online services are offered. This research pretends to make a compilation of the services that the current government offers as part of the electronic government modality. Inside this exploration, marked differences were found in terms of web site structures as shown by each ministry, such as those that have a well elaborated interface. Others, however, are flat and not very well designed, or show links that are not enabled; this only shows a lack of maintenance and update of their sites.

It has been concluded that although there may be a technological platform that supports web services for different ministries, there is no structure in elements like structure nor informational spaces; besides, those online services strictly offered online are limited, and many of these services only include information as to what processes people need to follow in person.
