This investigation was aimed at determining the social, cultural, economic, and geographical features of the township of Los Planes de Renderos. The research team used a multimodal design since qualitative and quantitative techniques were used. The qualitative techniques helped to collect the elements linked to cultural identity in the township. The quantitative techniques were used to collect the historical, geographical and socioeconomic data in said township. The study was descriptive and a total of 306 residents participated, thus generating data which showed a 92 % of confidence [interval] and a margin of error equal to 6 %. An ethnographic study was also conducted by means of an in-depth interview; 40 residents participated. Said residents were selected on the basis of the time of residence; they had to have resided there for at least one previous generation; their testimonies were validated through a qualitative triangulation. The main results include the following: the leading income emanates from remittances and semiformal employment in the services area; social violence is a high-impact condition that exerts a strong influence in the development of the local economy; these two elements are related to the cultural imaginary of the locals and their lack of a rooted identity with the customs and traditions of the locality.
