Abstract

El Salvador Committee for Dead and Missing Migrants (Cofamide, given the Spanish acronym of Comité de Familiares de Migrantes Fallecidos y Desaparecidos) was established in 2006 through the initiative of the mothers, fathers, brothers, sisters, husbands, wives and children of migrants who traveled to the United States and went missing or died in their journey. Those interested in the phenomenon decided to join efforts due to the indifference shown by the governmental authorities back then who would not take the time to look after the issue of missing and dead Salvadorean migrants.
