Cultural conditions of middle school students for learning the English language

This article is part of the results obtained from the research entitled “The Influence of the social environment in the development of English skills in middle school students,” which focused on one of the identified factors influencing the interest in learning the English language in middle school students from the public and private schools in El Salvador. The study is descriptive, with a cross design. The sample comprised young Salvadoran students, represented by probability sampling, divided in the fourteen departments of the country. Among the main results, it was found that there is a difference in motivation to learn English between the students in the private and public sectors respectively; those students in the public schools were motivated to learn it in order to get a job. Also, it was found that the educational level of the parents has incidence in their children´s perception towards the language; besides, family pressure is a relevant factor in learning English.
