School violence expressed through various forms, including peer abuse, has its maximum expression in the form of bullying. The objectives of this research are to relate the presence of bullying with students profile of social values in the classroom and to assess school climate by students. The research was conducted at the national level in the 14 departments of El Salvador. During the months of July through October of 2012. We calculated a probability sample of 1297 participants, representing 97.0% and an error estimate of 3.0%, for a finite population of 151,124 students enrolled in secondary education (Ministry of Education, 2011). Finally, we worked with a larger sample of high school students with 1577 participants of those who attend public institutions. The sample was calculated according to the formula for finite populations and verified on line in www.raosoft.com/ samplesiz.
A questionnaire containing two scales that measured sociopersonal relations and school climate was used, identifying social values of respect, kindness, justice, and discipline that are practiced within school life. Mean differences were established using the t test with the sex of the participants, family structure and place of residence urban or rural.
The results indicate that values to be consistent with respect are developing but still remain situations and conflicts among peers; maintaining individualism and instrumental violence is legitimized. The practices of violent relationships generate unfavorable psychological school climates for coexistence of adolescents at secondary education.
