Abstract

Migration has become part of the media agenda, especially in the written press, even exclusive sections have been created in that area. Therefore, it is important to analyze the materials produced under the magnitude of the academic considerations of the journalistic task.
On the issue of migration, journalists have established main sources: the opinion of emigrants and immigrants, who in the end are the protagonists; and the most used genre to publish the information is the news, basic journalistic form to give cold data and without analysis. Migration theme disseminated with different prisms established by aspects such as legal issues, death, problems (arrests, raids, deportation), laws, protests, abuse, aid, electoral politics in El Salvador and the United States, health campaigns, education, AIDS, return volunteer, culture, women, children and adolescents and the migrant's route.
The analysis was made of news published from June 2007 to June 2008, in five newspapers in El Salvador. Journalists and editors working in the area were interviewed, with the aim of showing the image that the media builds and disseminates.
