The issue of migration, although it is a subject of great importance for El Salvador for many years, is until recently that it is being assigned its rightful place, both in the social media (MCS); different non-governmental organizations (NGOs); the central government with the creation of a Vice Ministry of Foreign Affairs for Salvadorans Abroad (2004); the emergence of the Permanent Bureau for Migrants of the Office of the Procurator for the Defense of Human Rights of El Salvador; the preparation of the Human Development Report of El Salvador 2005 (IDHES, 2005), devoted entirely to the impact of migration in El Salvador; Several private universities are also conducting research on different topics related to migration.
