Abstract

In recent years, the phenomenon of youth gangs or gangs has been very interesting and different investigations have been carried out in this regard. It agrees with the different analyzes in which gangs are not a new phenomenon and the current manifestation have different causes; These range from family disintegration, school desertion, marginalization and poverty among other aspects. Before the nineties it was common to hear among young people and even young adults the term "mara" to refer to their friends, obviously, this approach has now changed, given the implications of being a member of a gang. The definitions, the appellatives and the identification that is made when referring to these young people are varied, ranging from vague, delinquent, antisocial, criminal, to drug addict. But any qualification about such a complex phenomenon is incomplete. But nevertheless. There are two matching questions: Who are the young people of Mara?  Where are they from?
