I would like to begin my participation in this panel with my sincere gratitude, both to the Salvadoran Industrialists Association and Universidad Tecnológica de El Salvador, for the opportunity they offer me to share with you some comments, as Ambassador of Mexico in El Salvador, on the free trade agreement recently concluded between my country, on the one hand, and Guatemala, Honduras and El Salvador, on the other.
To you, esteemed audience, I also thank you for your interest in this important topic and for your fine attention to my comments.
The FTA between Mexico and the countries of the so-called triangle of northern Central America is one of the fundamental mandates of the mechanism of dialogue and agreement of Tuxtla, started in 1991 in the Mexican population of the same name, with the participation of Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico and Nicaragua.
Since that time, the presidents announced their intention to move towards a free trade zone in the region, a goal that is now closer with the conclusion of the FTA with the northern triangle.
