Abstract

Six years of uninterrupted negotiations to finally reach a Free Trade Agreement between the countries of the Northern Triangle of Central America (El Salvador, Guatemala and Honduras) and Mexico, is a long period in which the parties have had changes of Presidents due to the necessary alternation democratic and, of course, changes of Ministers of Economy or Commerce.
Usually the most responsible for the commercial policy of these countries. Undoubtedly, these changes, among others, such as the economic and financial crises that have taken place in the international scenario, have affected the duration of the negotiation period.
To the above factors, it would be appropriate to add in the scope of the business sector the natural expectations of a different sign that involved participation for the first time in the negotiation of a Free Trade Agreement. This is particularly due to the complexity and integrity of the commercial instrument that was finally negotiated, and because it was made with a friendly business partner who presented the high profile of a successful economic policy and who had just concluded a successful Free Trade Agreement with crowns of success. the first world economic power, the United States of America, and Canada. The challenges were clearly delineated.
