In the research shown below, an estimation for the capacity factor is offered for photovoltaic projects located in diverse regions in Honduras (northwest, center and south). Said capacity factor depends on different meteorological variables, but it also relies on the irradiance the area in which the photovoltaic project is located. By means of data gathered of public domain in the Empresa Nacional de Energía Electrica (ENEE) in between the years 2015 through 2021 regarding energy generated and
available power of each photovoltaic project, we were able to estimate the capacity factor for each of the years in the study. Additionally, we were able to gather data of private companies that also take advantage of the photovoltaic resource available in the country for self use. This way, taking the diverse projects in the 3 different regions of interest, we can have an idea of the fluctuation that can be presented in the capacity factor depending on the geographic zone studied.
