This essay analyzes the creative economy in Nicaragua, highlighting the strategic role of Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) in its promotion. Based on scientific instruments and specialized literature, it addresses key principles of social development. The Government of Nicaragua has created the legal reference for the creative economy through Presidential Decree No. 06-2021, which reformed Law 290 “Law on the Organization, Competencies and Procedures of the Executive Branch” (GRUN, 2021). The Secretariat for the Creative and Orange Economy was created, which promoted the National Commission for the Creative Economy, incorporating the National Council of Universities (CNU) and HEIs as key actors (Nicaragua Creativa, 2023). The research examines the contribution of HEIs in innovation processes, analyzes the predominant types of innovation and proposes strategies to optimize knowledge management, highlighting the role of HEIs as catalysts for Nicaragua’s socioeconomic development.
