This article addresses the employability and entrepreneurship of women in urban and rural areas of the municipality of Santa Tecla, crucial issues for economic and social development, since women face specific challenges in accessing employment and creating businesses under a diversity of urban and rural contexts. The purpose of the research is to analyze the opportunities and barriers that women face in terms of employment and entrepreneurship, as well as the different dynamics between areas. The research methodology is applied with a mixed approach, with a level of descriptive depth and an intentional non-probabilistic sample, in which interviews and surveys were carried out with women residents of Santa Tecla, focused on the canton of Los Pajales, El Progreso, Quezaltepec neighborhood. and New Dawn. Working tables were also held with key actors, in which the most significant and relevant problems that require greater intervention by governmental, non-governmental entities, private companies or other organizations that support these groups of women were discussed.
Data on their participation in the labor market, skills, education and entrepreneurial aspirations were compared between urban and rural areas, where some interesting findings were identified such as rural areas that often face limitations in education and access to resources, Just as entrepreneurship, on the one hand, is more common in urban areas and women can access training and support networks, on the other hand, rural women tend to undertake businesses in sectors such as agriculture, typical foods, crafts, etc. others and market it in the same community.
